Alright, this is just a quick overview of the series, and for the most part pertains to all versions (Anime/Manga/Live Action/OAV), where it doesn't I've specified. If you want more in-depth synopsis check out some of the sites in the Links section, or if you've got a specific question feel free to e-mail me.

unit-gThat said, the Guyver is a biological weapon created when a human bonds with a 'unit' (a guyver unit - shown above/left). Supposedly the 'units' were engineered by the creators and used as an everyday armorment, (the story really only gets this far in the manga) when one bonds with a human our violent tendencies turn the units into weapons. The word Guyver actually means "beyond the norm" or "out of control" (depending on whose translation you have).

Now there are three units in existence on earth (manga/anime/OVA), or at least three known units. GuyverI is Sho Fukamachi who's really nothing but an unlucky bystander, GuyverIII is Agito Makishima a former member of the Chronos elite who has turned against them for personal reasons, and GuyverII who is a Chronos inspector, either Oswald A. Risker (Anime/Manga) or *Valcuria/Valkyrie(Out of Control OVA). Both forms of GuyverII are killed by GuyverI. *note that like many of the names there's been some dispute on the correct spelling/ and or pronunciation here. For the most part I try to list the most commonly used versions.

Chronos (sometimes written Kronos) is a worldwide organization bent on global domination. They plot to carry out this plan through the use of Zoaniods, geneticialy enhanced humans that can alter their DNA to transform into battle creatures. The company is governed by the council of twelve, a group of twelve supreme Zoalords. Zoalords are the highest level zoaniods and are able to manipulate all other zoaniods, with the exception of other Zoalords, through telepathic control.

Another quick note, in the Manga there is one Zoalord, Alkanphel/Arkanfel, who reigns over the council of twelve. Hamilcal Valcus states towards the end of the translation that "even with all eleven Zoalords fighting in concert, we would not best him". Outside of the later books his origins are suggestive only, but it's beleived he's been around since the time of the creators. It is eventually revealed that he was the first zoalord and all the others were created from him.

(Anima/Manga)In addition to the Guyvers there are other characters that have their own wars to wage against Chronos. Aptom is a former member of the Lost Numbers, a group of zoaniods whose reproduction capability has been lost, and has the capability to transform into multiple zoaforms(he becomes more powerful by absorbing the DNA of other zoaniods). He has a deep running grudge against GuyverI for killing his comrades but isn't esspecialy fond of Chronos either. After Chronos had staged it's world takeover he forms a shaky alliance with the Guyvers, seemingly deciding they are the lesser enemy.

Masaki Murikami is a Proto-lord(a prototype of a Zoalord, Gyro to be more precise) and joins forces with the Guyvers. Although he does have the capabilities of a Zoalord, including the ability to telepathicialy control the zoaniods, using his powers is extremely draining. In his final battle with Gyro he is killed only to be resurected by Alkanphel later as the thirteenth zoalord, Imakirum Mirabilis, replacing Gyro.

The Live Action version follows an all but entirely different plot, with none of the regular characters. Sean is the Guyver (there's only one at first) and most of the characters are loosely based on one or more of the japanese versions, although several of them are amalgamated, such as the Zoalord(I think its either <based on> Valcus or Gyro) that is more or less representative of the council of twelve. In the second video a Relic, one of the ships left over from the creators (there is one of these in the Manga, and their mentioned in all versions - I think, possibly not in the OAV) is found and a second guyver, or rather a guyver zoaniod, is created.
