The Guyver: Rapier Unit - by Owen Ward

We all know that this part of a fanfic is full of the usual blab, ie, characters based on original story by Yoshiki Takaya, all other characters are fictional, property of me and don't use them............. etc............... So, now that is over, then on with the story!

Chapter 7: Time Heals?

Dave had rushed to England, to investigate the reports from his best friend

that some of the artifacts found with his Guyver Unit seemed to be finally

showing signs of activity, but soon after coming into contact with these

artifacts that he quickly fell into a coma like state. Months have passed

and now it was nearly a year since Dave had shown any signs of

consciousness. John blamed himself, if he hadn't informed Dave of the

changes to the items that then Dave wouldn't be in the state he was in now.

"If only had I waited", was all John could think of as he got up from his

chair and left Dave's bedside, the monotone bleeps from the EKG monitor

searing into his mind. John heard a movement and turned around to face some

of the medical apparatus that surrounded Dave. The cerebrograph and

psychogram machines were both going haywire. The agency had decided to link

him up to these machines so they could observe his brain activity, they

were extremely protective of their employees.

John watched as the pencil arm, which recorded the brain activity, swung

across the page from left to right at such a pace that it was obvious that

whatever was happening in Dave's head was extremely disturbing. Suddenly

there were more physical signs of the amount of activity that was going on

inside Daves brain. Small blue sparks, much like minuscule lightening

bolts, began to fly around Dave's head. Soon a field of mental energy had

gathered around Dave's head and it was ever increasing in intensity, soon

the entire length of his body was surrounded with the lightning like mental

field. John flung a hand up as the brightness intensified, he looked on in

amazement as Dave summoned his Guyver armour even though he was still

unconscious. The armour seemed to lock on extremely slowly, and piece by

piece. Dave was almost completely shrouded in his Unit when all of a

sudden, in a flash of brilliant white-blue light, the bio-booster armour

disappeared without trace.

With his heart still pounding, John stepped closer to check on Dave's vital

signs but there was no change, apart from the slight change in heart rate

during the experience, fortunately the protective blast field had not been

activated during the temporary partial transformation so none of the

medical equipment had been damaged. John had to let his supervisors know

about this. He hadn't seen anything like it since Dave first fell into his

coma-like state, it was a flash just like what had happened which put Dave

in the state he was in now. The field had only shown when anybody had tried

to inject Dave or make anything more than light physical contact, John knew

that it was the Guyver unit which was protecting him. . .

Elsewhere. . .

Sho and his group of friends were still busy trying to get to the old house

in the forest, one of the many safe houses that Agito had set up over the

years, without being detected by Chronos. Agito had left them so that he

could return to Arizona to continue leading his rebel force against the

Chronos forces that were present in the United States.

Sho peered through the foliage to look at the house they had occupied many

months ago. One of his lasting memories of this place was the last flight

back with Guyver3 and GuyverX, after their battle with the Hyper Zoanoid

Team 5 members. Nothing had changed about the house, the paint on it needed

touching up, but it was obvious that it had not been otherwise disturbed.

Sho led his group of friends up the garden path and was the first to enter

the house. They were soon all comfortable and felt the unfamiliar feeling

of being at home. Tetsuro went upstairs to check if everything on the

second floor was as it should be. Tetsuro crept into the room in which Dave

had setup and left some equipment so they could contact him if needed. The

room was dark, only small red LED's were visible to indicate that the

equipment was still powered up, but then suddenly there was a rush of

movement. Tetsuro jumped back but tripped over his own feet and fell to the

floor. He quickly looked up from were he now sat on the floor and saw two

birds fly up through a hole in the ceiling leading to the attic. "Phew!

That scared the shit out of me!" Tetsuro mumbled to himself. Sho had run up

the stairs to see what the chaos was all about and soon fell about laughing

when Tetsuro explained. Sho then summoned Natsuki, Shizu, Roujin and Mizuki

to join them in the bedroom. Immediately work was set to use the equipment

to get in touch with Dave, he was going to be extremely useful in the

downfall of the Chronos Empire.

Meanwhile, Somewhere in the US. . .

A man stood over a desk in a dimly lit room, lit only by the lamp on the

desk. Agito was deep in thought as he overlooked some plans of a Chronos

research and development building, it was the target for the next attack by

Zeus forces.

This was a crucial attack, it was also an attack that favoured not the

rebel forces, but Chronos. The Zeus force, although extremely resourceful

and powerful, still lacked the outright strength of Chronos forces. It was

going to take Agito some time to make plans that would guarantee success

against such a heavily protected Chronos facility. Fortunately, as a former

elite member of Chronos, few others knew as much as he about Chronos

strengths and weaknesses. Now, it was just a matter of time, at least for

now time seemed to be on his side. . .

Back in England. . .

John placed his hand on Dave's shoulder; "Are you sure your okay?".

Dave had arisen from his coma, he was now sitting up on the edge of the

bed, he was confused and bewildered, "Where am I?". "Your at the agency,

whatever happened with your Guyver Unit put you in a coma for about ten

months!".

"Eh? I, . . . I, . . . what happened?". "Not now. Your confused, you need

to rest. I'll let you get some sleep and I'll be back to check on you

within a few hours" said John as he made for the door. Dave sat on the bed

and then let his head fall into his cupped hands. His life had some history

behind it but to him it seemed as though it had only just begun.

Meanwhile. . .

Sho and Tetsuro tried yet again to gain contact with Dave. They already

knew that getting in touch with him would be hit or miss since Chronos

owned almost all of the communications networks. The 'net was about the

only 'free-speech' network that still existed. Chronos owned most of the

servers but because the multi-media explosion had led to so much advanced

technology being available to every house owner, it had become extremely

difficult to control the Internet, even for Chronos, though just to be on

the safe side, both Sho and Tetsuro used every hacking skill they possessed

to bypass any security protocols that Chronos might have set up to track

them. Fortunately, one of the equipment left by Dave had some serious data

encryption algorithms that would take Chronos months to break if they could

at all. . .

A month into Daves rehabilitation, John came bounding into the

physiotherapy wing of the agency. "Well, we've finally got the evidence to

prove to the boss that you weren't lying about the other Guyvers in Japan!"

shouted John. "Eh? Slow down mate, what the hell are you on about?" asked

Dave as he continued to lift the weights he was training with. "Your friend

in Japan, you know, Sho" replied John, gasping for air. "Sho.........?"

Dave looked bewildered. "Sho Fuk......"

"Fukamachi, Sho Fukamachi, I remember now!" said Dave with a sound of

suprise in his voice. Since his coma, Dave had little, or no recollection

of what had happened to him. John had tried to explain the Guyver Unit to

Dave but to no avail, Dave could not consciously call his Unit, and as he

had no recollection of his Unit at all that it made it extremely difficult

for him to imagine what it had once been like. Now Dave's head was full of

thoughts, rushing around like a swarm of flies. Dave stood up and walked

towards the french doors that lead to the patio. Dave pushed the door open

and was bathed in brilliant light as the sun shined down on him. John

watched from a distance, he wasn't sure what was happening, but he was sure

that Dave knew what he was doing. Dave stood and spread his arms out,

slowly an orb-like field of crackling energy had engulfed him. John watched

in amazement as the Rapier Unit began to form inside the field, it reminded

him of what happened to Dave shortly before he emerged from his coma. The

field of energy seemed to intensify and began to hover above the ground,

John covered his eyes and could barely make out the shape of Dave inside.

The ball of energy now seemed to be concentrating itself, it was getting

smaller in size but far more intense. Suddenly the ball of energy seemed to

consume itself then it reflected back out in an almost explosion-like

burst. The blast left John in a heap on the floor, surrounded by broken

glass from the doors, looking up at GuyverX. "John, I,. . I,. . I remember

everything!" said GuyverX. "The doctors were right, you just needed to hear

a 'trigger' and it brought back your memory!" exclaimed John. "I remember

Japan, with Sho and Agito! I wonder what they are doing now?" said Dave, he

had transformed back into his human form. "Dave, do you remember what put

you into the coma?" asked John, wondering just how much Dave could

remember. "Yes, I know what happened. It was the other part of my armour.

You remember you said that one of the artifacts was acting strangely so I

traveled back from Japan?". "Of course I do" John said as he inwardly

flinched from the memory. "Well, I checked it when I got back and nothing

was happening so I bio-boosted to see if I could get any kind of reaction

while in my Guyver form and as soon as I bio-boosted the Unit opened. My

Control Medal opened up and the Unit joined with me, I could feel the

difference a few seconds ago when I was GuyverX again." "What sort of

difference?" enquired John. "I'm not sure, it felt like there was another

part of my Unit. When I'm not in my Guyver armour I can still feel it's

presence, subconsciously, so to speak. Now when I bio-boost I feel a similar

sensation, like there is something that I should be calling for, another

being." explained Dave, with a slight look of bewilderment on his face.

"It's probably a psychological echo, you were in a coma for a very long

time and past events are probably still playing over in the back of your

mind.". "Your right, I need to do some more meditation, to get my head

clear. Before my coma I was progressing well in my mental training, I need

to prepare so I can take Chronos on!"

Meanwhile, things had been quiet for Sho, Mizuki, Tetsuro and their other

friends back in Japan. They had settled down in the house and had begun to

feel more secure. Sho and Tetsuro had made sure that all the devices that

Dave left for them were still working as they should. One night they had a

visit, an unexpected one at that. Everyone in the house was fast asleep

when there was a distant whirling noise which gradually got louder as the

source of the noise got closer to the house. The whirling noise was now

accompanied by vibrations that caused ornaments to rattle around in the

house. Sho began to stir but did not wake, instead he tossed and turned.

Suddenly Sho sat bolt upright and jumped out of bed, he had been startled

by the sound of his alarm clock smashing on the floor. As the misty

sensation of sleep cleared from his head, he realized what was going on! It

was a helicopter that was approaching, a big helicopter. It was definitely

not a traffic helicopter that would sometimes pass, the rotor slap was too

loud and it was traveling far too low. It must be a Chronos transport

chopper.

Sho ran through the first floor, rushing from bedroom to bedroom, waking up

his friends. The last room that he entered was the one that Dave had setup

his equipment in, Sho grabbed the night vision goggles that had been left

for them and ran towards the window. He ripped the curtains apart and

looked into the pitch black sky, scanning just above the horizon for the

helicopter that he knew would be on top of them very soon. The digital

auto-focus on the NV goggles locked onto the helicopter that Sho spotted.

The HUD showed the calculated range and speed of the approaching aircraft.

Sho pressed a few buttons and then some figures began to flash on the HUD

inside the goggles. It read: "ETA 45secs". Forty-five seconds was all the

time that Sho had to decide what to do and how to go about it. "What's going

on?" yelled Mizuki. "Quick, get into the basement" hollered Sho. "But what's

going on?" asked Natsuki. "We're in deep shit, so do as I say and get into

that damn basement now!" yelled Sho as he rushed everybody into the

basement.

Sho looked down at his watch and then looked up only to make eye contact

with Tetsuro. The sound was louder than ever and the group could feel the

earth shaking. Mizuki could see that Sho was counting down the forty-five

seconds and kept her mouth sealed tightly, she daren't talk at a time like

this. "Sho, you're a Guyver, why don't you do something?" pleaded Shizu.

"Because even if I destroy them, Chronos will know we're here, we'll have

no place to live! Now be quiet!" snapped Sho. Sho looked up as the buzzing

sound of rotors peaked at it's most intense volume. The helicopter seemed

to hover for about ten seconds, then it became peaceful once more. "Stay

here, I'm going for a look" whispered Sho. Sho unlocked the reinforced

steel door to the basement and opened it far enough for him to see around.

There was no sign of movement in the house, he stepped out and closed the

door shut behind him. He thought about transforming but the noise and light

would alert any nearby enemy to his presence. So he relied on the night

vision goggle as he snuck around the house. He scanned the area but could

sense no signs of movement as he continued to check each room carefully

before stepping out onto the front porch and still could not sense any form

of threat, what he did find however were two large containers, the sort

that make up the back of lorries when they are taken off the transport

ship. Sho decided that if this was a trap that he might as well activate

his unit. So he yelled out "Guyver!" and a blast field erupted around him

as he transformed into Guyver1, leaving a small crater from where he now

stood. Scanning the area one last time with his units hyper sensors,

Guyver1 then scanned the containers and slowly walked up to them. On one of

the containers, he found a note attached. The note read as follows:

"Chronos have grown strong. Sorry for my absence but things have changed.

I'm sure the items inside will be a great help. The code for the locks is

the

date we last met. Maybe we'll meet again sometime. All the best, Dave."

Relieved Sho deactivated his armour and ran inside to get the others, then

they all walked out together to watch as Sho unlocked the containers. Sho

punched in the required number on the metal keypad and watched as the

digits lit up on a red LED screen, he pressed enter after the code was

complete and the keypad flashed up a message: turn left then right. A

second later a dial emerged from under the keypad, Sho turned it, left,

then right. Suddenly there was some loud hydraulic clunking sounds as the

rods that held the door secure retracted a few inches, then the door popped

open about 4 inches, just far enough for someone to get their hand in to

open the doors fully. Sho grabbed both the doors and flung them open,

automatically a light inside lit up the container to reveal a treasure

trove of items. Sho stepped inside and looked left to right as he walked

past the shelves, Dave certainly wasn't kidding when he said he worked for

a Government agency designing weapons. "Sho, don't touch anything yet!" Sho

spun around as he heard Dave's voice from behind him but was faced only

with a holographic projection. "I know what your thinking, and I know

you've got a lot of questions to ask, hopefully the box on the floor at the

end of the container will have all the information you need. It is a box

full of videos, they will instruct you on how to use all the hardware that

I've sent you. I hope we can talk face to face soon and recount what has

happened over the past year. I know Chronos almost has a stranglehold on

the whole world, but as long as there are people like you, your friends, me

and my agency, then there is always hope. Also as long as we keep that hope

alive that we'll have a chance at winning this war. Take care, and watch

the videos before touching anything, I don't want you killing yourself with

something that was sent to help you! Bye for now, see you in the future,

and stay in touch."

The hologram vanished and Sho stood facing his friends, they all shared the

same dumbfounded expression. Tonight was going to be a late night, they had

a lot of viewing to get through by the size of the box! "Sho" the hologram

re-appeared, "Before you go, walk towards the doorway. There you will find

two boxes the same size, one marked with 'garage', the other marked with

'shed'. Take them out with you and lock the door behind you. Open the boxes

and you will find canvas throw-overs to disguise these containers, that

will prevent suspicion from being aroused." The holographic message was

true to it's words, the throw-overs were quite convincing from a distance

and that was all that was needed.

Meanwhile, back in the US, Agito was again deep in thought at his desk, he

couldn't sleep, tomorrow was the big day. The day which would see if months

of planning would be a success or a massacre. Agito was just about to take

a sip of coffee when he suddenly felt a presence, it was Sho summoning him

through the organism on his back. "What do you want Sho?" Agito asked.

"We've got a present from Dave, it seems that Chronos hasn't got him in

their grasp like we first thought!". "We can't be sure of that, what has he

sent you exactly?" Agito was intrigued. "I'm not sure exactly, but it's

weaponry for sure. Some of it looks like electronic equipment too, but

whatever he has sent, it looks to me as though he was telling the truth

about his job!" remarked Sho. "I've got a big attack planned for tomorrow,

I'll come across in a few days, depending on the result of the battle".

"Good luck, use the Gigantic Unit, and call if you need help". "I will,

sleep well, and look after the others, they are very vulnerable".

Hours later the peaceful dusk sky was lit up with an explosion of burning

orange light as the sun broke over the horizon, that was the signal. All of

a sudden there was a number of explosions and the sound of gunfire crackled

through the crisp morning air. Agito was leading his Zeus force into battle

and so far everything was going as planned. Charges had been set on the

remote Gatling gun pods so there was no risk of the troops running into a

hail of hot lead but it wasn't long before the Chronos forces had come to

terms that they were under attack that things started to really heat up.

Hordes of Chronos troopers poured out of the barracks like ants crawling

from their nest. As the troops appeared they were picked off quickly by the

advancing rebels who were using a variety of explosive shells and high

velocity armour piercing ammunition. Although the rebels were vastly

outnumbered by the Chronos troops, they still had the upper hand due to the

element of surprise, that was until Vamore type zoanoids began dispensing of

the rebels in large groups with each bio-laser blast. Agito considered

bio-boosting but realized that no matter what he did that they were too

badly outnumbered, instead he shouted the command to retreat and the rebels

pulled out as quickly as they had rushed into the Chronos base but as they

were running back, they ran straight into a platoon of soldiers all dressed

in black. Thinking the game was finally up, Agito's soldiers faced off

against the new comers. These must have been the Chronos elite troops that

Agito had heard rumours about, wearing balaclavas and armed to the teeth

with weapons which Agito was unfamiliar with. "Agito, you seem to be going

the wrong way?" shouted the elite troop that seemed to be in command, "Come

on lads, let's move out". The platoon marched straight past the bewildered

rebels and began to open fire on the advancing Chronos troops and various

zoanoids. The weapons that this platoon were armed with were just ripping

the zoanoids to pieces. The leader of the troop walked back to where Agito

and his stunned rebels stood and took his black backpack off. He reached

inside and took out a metal case, as the soldier opened the case Agito saw

that it was some form of weapon that was in several pieces. The soldier

took the pieces out one by one and carefully constructed some form of

shoulder-mounted projectile launcher. The last piece that the soldier

snapped into position looked like some form of munition cartridge. The

soldier hiked the weapon to his shoulder and flicked a red switch on the

side, a few LED's lit up across the weapon and a glass screen folded out. A

super-imposed cross-hair and targeting system lit up on the screen. "Target

allocation; target one......mark, target two......mark, target

three......mark" the soldier was actually talking to the weapon. As the

soldier marked each target he moved on and marked another, after each one

was marked an electronic sounding voice confirmed the target by replying

"Acquired". The soldier then turned to Agito, "As I direct the weapon at

each building tell me what it is and what's inside". Agito nodded, he was

totally shocked by what was happening and a thought was running through his

mind. "That one is a barracks" muttered Agito as the soldier aimed the

weapon at a metal dome-shaped building. "Armour-piercing Hades" said the

soldier clearly. Agito was about to ask what he was on about when the

weapon spoke; "Warhead loaded". "Target one" repeated the soldier.

"Locked and ready" came the answer from the weapon. The soldier pulled the

trigger and the weapon made a whirring sound, suddenly a rocket was spat

out of the launcher and when it was about twenty metres away the solid fuel

inside it sparked up an inferno and sent the rocket hurtling towards it's

target. As the rocket struck it went straight through the metal wall of the

barracks and suddenly there was a huge blast of intense heat, the building

began to burn ferociously.

"That's the communications centre" stammered Agito as the weapon was turned

towards another building. "Hyper velocity electron bomb" the soldier spoke

yet again to the weapon. "Warhead loaded", "Target two", "Locked and ready"

The trigger was pulled and this time there was a more intense whirring

sound, a blast shield popped from the back of the weapon and a another

shield covered the soldiers face. The whirring grew loader. The rocket this

time ignited in the tube and the rocket flew out. As the rocket got about a

hundred metres away the rocket gave a further blast of fuel and streaked

like lightening through the crisp morning air. The rocket hit the building

and left a massive cloud of dust behind it, Agito noticed that the rocket

had gone straight through the thick concrete construction of the building.

Suddenly there were large lightening like sparks from the building,

followed by a series of explosions. "That's the generator house" announced

Agito, as the soldier pointed the launcher towards the next target. "High

explosive shell", "Warhead loaded", "Target three", "Locked and ready".

"Suck on this" muttered the soldier as he pulled the trigger. The warhead

was flung from the launcher tube with a popping sound, it ignited some

distance away from the launcher and sped towards the building. There was an

almighty explosion and as the smoke cleared Agito realized that the

building had been completely flattened. "That's the armoury" confirmed

Agito as the weapon was re-aimed yet again. "This shouldn't take much;

Multi-bomb", "Warhead loaded", "Target four", "Locked and ready". The

soldier sniggered as he pulled the trigger; the rocket flew towards the

ammunitions building and then split into six smaller rockets halfway

through it's journey. The six rockets found their target and exploded on

impact, the initial explosion were met by further ones as the weapons

inside blew apart. "That last building is our main target, it's the

laboratory, where they do all the research and development". "Better make

sure we do a good job of flattening it then!; Neutron bomb, three shots",

"Warheads loaded", "Target five, multiple target with three points,

horizontal line formation, twenty metre split either side of main target

point and one at the centre". "Acquired, locked and ready". This time when

the trigger was pulled there where three popping sounds as the trio of

warheads were released. The rebels watched, completely entranced by the

three warheads as the fuel ignited and they split into the desired

formation. The soldier had obviously designated a window for each of the

rockets as they all smashed through the glass, gaining access to the very

heart of the huge building. The resulting explosions of these warheads was

comparable to miniature atomic explosion, except they left the building

standing but completely cleaned out anything that may have been inside.

"Troops, fall back!" shouted the soldier over his radio. The platoon

dressed in black slowly marched backwards towards their commander but kept

up the barrage of weaponry fire on the Chronos henchmen. As soon as the

platoon were at a safe distance the commanding soldier pulled a black

object from his belt. It looked like a grenade, he pulled the pin and a

string of LED's began a chasing motion around the circumference of it. He

stepped back and then hurled the grenade into the middle of the remaining

Chronos combatants. "Better be quick on your feet lads" he hollered over

the radio. The soldiers took the message, turned and ran back to where

Agito, the rebels, and the commander were standing. There was a blinding

flash and then a blast of wind, the wind brought with it the screams of

zoanoids who had been blown to pieces by the power of the blast. "What the

fuck was that?" shouted one of the rebels, breaking the dumbfounded silence

which had cast itself over the warriors. "That my dear friend, was a

neutron grenade. Flattens all biological and tissue matter but leaves hard

surfaces, ie... a building, intact" explained the commander.

The commander took Agitos hand and began to shake it; "Good to see you old

friend". The rebels turned to their leader for an explanation but Agito was

as shocked as they were. The commander spoke again; "Maybe this will help",

he said as he pulled his balaclava off. "Dave. . . but how in hell did you

know we were here, and what we were doing?" asked Agito. "You should know

by now that you and I have a lot in common, that's how I knew, and you can

tell I have all the resources I needed to find out the necessary details"

explained Dave. "Understood, anyway, let's get the hell out of here before

we attract anymore attention!". "Good point, we'll follow you back to your

HQ, if that's okay with you?". "Of course it is" said Agito as they began

to walk away from the devastated Chronos base.
