Review of Slayers

Main cast

Welcome to the wonderful Slayers world, also called the Monster kingdoms. This is a world full of opportunity and magic. Not to mention, bandits to kill, and treasure to steal from them. Our Slayers cast is made up of the most interesting people that live in the Slayers world.

Meet Lina Inverse, the bandit killer, sorceress extranaire, and dragon spooker. ((Lina, "HEY, I told you not to call me dragon spooker!") (Writer, "Shut up, it is a plot device.")) And this is her faithful sidekick, the dumb blonde male himself, Gourry. ((Gourry, "And I didn't even have to bleach my hair...") (Writer, "Umm... Yes, well, can I finish?")) Lina loves money, food, and Gourry; even if she won't admit that she is in love with him. ((Lina and Gourry facefault.)) And Gourry loves good food, a good fight, and staring out into space.

And now you have the privilege of meeting Zelgadiss. This 'way too cute for his own good' guy is convinced that he doesn't need to have stone skin. ((Writer, "Okay, who the heck ever gave him that dumb idea?") (Zelgadiss, "But I want to be human.") (Writer, "Shut up, you don't know what is best for you. You will get more girlfriends this way.") (Zelgadiss facefaults.)) He was made into a chimera by his grandfather/great grandfather, Rezo the Red Priest. This Priest knew exactly how to make sure that his grandson carried on the family, he gave him a totally gorgeous body. ((Rezo, "Thank you." Takes a bow.))

Now we come to the justice princess herself, Amelia. Everyone's favorite little whining princess, who just happens to pack a mean fireball. She believes that the world should be fair and kind, and that even evil-doers can change. She is also only one of the many girls that has a mountain sized crush on Zelgadiss. Not that Zel would give her a second glace with me around. ((Amelia, "You stay away from Zel-sama.") (Writer, "Why should I? You know that he would like me much better than you.")) She is as strong as she is annoying, amazingly enough. And she continues to try and get her hero, Miss Lina, to teach her the Dragon Slave. ((Writer, "Not in my lifetime, or Zel's for that matter.") (Amelia, "What is that crack supposed to mean?") (Writer, "Just that chimera have longer lives than humans do. And that I think that he would kill you if Lina ever made the mistake of teaching you anything really powerful.") (Amelia faints at the thought of fighting with Zelgadiss.))

Now we come to a few of the Slayers people that I haven't had the personal misfortune to meet... ((Writer, "Or is that the other way around?") (Xellos, "What is so misfortunate about meeting you?") (Writer, "It's a secret.") (Xellos facefaults, muttering something about his line.)) Xellos, the Trickster Priest. This priest just happens to be some kind of demon working for one of the dark lords. But he has a mean crush on our lady Lina, so that makes up for his past. He loves to play tricks on the rest of the party, and to try and get kisses out of Lina. ((Lina, "I wouldn't kiss him if he paid me.") (Xellos, "But I have lots of money, and you can have half of it if you kiss me.") (Lina, "Umm...") (Writer, "Later, you guys. I am talking here.")) And there are lots of other characters that don't really bear mentioning. Like the shapeshifted dragon girl, that keeps hitting the poor trickster over the head with a really large mace. ((Xellos, "Where does that thing come from anyway?") (Writer, "Out of mallot-space. You would have to talk to Akane Tendo, of Ranma 1/2, to fully understand the concept.") (Xellos, "If you say so..."))

I happen to find Slayers to be as slap-stick funny as Ranma 1/2. I also have to say that of all the other animes, Slayers is by far the one that I like the best. You are sure to enjoy this anime. Though if you are watching DUB-Slayers, watch out for Amelia's voice; and I have been told that with SUB-Slayers it is Lina's voice that you have to worry about.
