Ranma 1/2 is an anime about a young boy. Only this paticular young boy has a big problem... When he gets splashed with cold water, he becomes a girl. ((Ranma, "Do you mind not telling the whole world about that?") (Writer, "Don't talk to me about it, everyone knows about it anyway. Afterall, you are the main character of one of the most popular animes that I know of.") (Ranma facefaults.))
He has a second problem in that his father has a habit of promising his hand in marriage to any girl who's father would give him something to eat. Unhappily, Ranma is engaged to the lovely young Akane. ((Ranma, "I never asked for this!") (Akane, "Who asked you?!")) She isn't all that thrilled with the arrangment either. But I have every hope that these two will finally get their acts together and admit to themselves that they were made for each other. ((Ranma, "What? Me, marry that tomboy. Not happening.") (Akane, "Ranma, you Baka!" She promply grabs a mallot from 'mallot-space' and clobbers Ranma.) (Writer, "See what I mean. They act like they are married already."))
Ranma's other fiances include these three girls... Shampoo, Ukyou, and Kodachi. Shampoo, a great fighter, and a very big problem for Ranma. Her tribe has laws that if she is beaten by a woman, she has to kill the girl; but if she is beaten by a man, she has to marry him. Poor Ranma, he beat Shampoo in a fight when he was in his female form and now Shampoo has found out that he is a man... Ukyou is one of the unlucky girls that Ranma's father promised that he would marry when she grew older. Ranma didn't even know that she was a girl when they were younger, and all he really wants from her is her friendship... Kodachi is insane and chases Ranma for insane reasons of her own...
I find Ranma 1/2 to be one of the funniest animes. With its slapstick humor, and its well thought out plots. You are sure to love this anime. Whether you enjoy SUB-animes or DUB-animes, Ranma 1/2 can be found easily in both forms.
